2 month check up

Carson went for his 2 month check up (even though he's only 6 1/2 weeks old) yesterday. He weighs 12.1 lbs (95%), is 24 inches long (95%), and has a head circumference in the 85% percentile. Dr. Lacy (the best pediatrician ever!!!) said his growth line is not an arc but is a straight line up! He said that's a good thing. Carson is a growing boy and loves to eat, which encourages healthy sleeping habits. Yay, mommy!! He has started taking a couple of short naps (45 min) and a couple of long naps (2-3 hours) a day instead of the six-1 and 1/2 hour naps he was taking. He also still sleeps at night from around 9:30 to 2:30, up for about 45 minutes to eat, and back down til 6:30.

He got 3 shots and cried sooooooooooooo hard for about 10 seconds. It broke my heart!! But then he got it together and was such a strong little man.

I am sleeping much better!! I think I just needed to give myself time to adjust and time for my hormones to settle down and my Lexapro to really kick in. ;) God has also been meeting me exactly where I need him to and of course, has gotten me through all of this HIS way! God deserves all the credit!~He does so much more than I or any anti-depressant could ever do! Thanks be to God!!!

Happy baby!

My little man smiles all the time. Now that we have his acid reflux under control with Prevacid and have him on a pretty good schedule, he is such a happy baby, which, by the way, makes for a very happy mommy and daddy! :)

6 weeks already?

Carson is already 6 weeks old!! I can't believe it. He is getting on a pretty good schedule~it's been pretty much the same for a while but I guess I just realized in the last few days that it may be our regular one. He eats 5.5 oz every 3.5 hours. His last "day" bottle is around 9 pm, he goes down before 10 pm, gets up around 2 am and then again between 6 and 7 am. My goal is to have him sleeping through the night no later than week 9 when I go back to work. He still goes down for naps pretty well unless he has some gas or is overstimulated. Andy and I take turns getting up with him in the middle of the night.

I am experiencing some postpartum insomnia. It is so annoying. I have no reason to be awake because EVERYONE else, including Carson, is asleep but I have the hardest time getting back to sleep if I wake up in the middle of the night. I could easily get up when Carson cries at 2 am, feed him, get him back down within 45 minutes, and be back asleep BUT my mind is racing 1,000 miles an hour, sometimes I only get a few hours of sleep per night! SUCKS!!! But at least I only require a few hours of sleep and can stay in a pretty good mood even though I'm sleep deprived. :) I go for my 6 week check up tomorrow and plan on talking to Dr. Peeler about all that then. Hopefully it's a temporary issue and will be resolved sooner rather than later.

Carson goes for his first round of shots Friday. I wanted to get them as soon as I could since LG goes to preschool everyday and could expose him to some pretty nasty stuff. LG never had any issues after she would get her shots so hopefully that's the way it will be with Carson.

BTW~doesn't Carson look just like his daddy?

Daddy's little friend

Carson is already into watching sports with his daddy.

5 weeks...

Carson is 5 weeks and 2 days old! He has still been relatively easy. He eats 5 oz every 3.5 hours. We switched him to Enfamil AR for a few days because of his acid reflux but didn't really see a positive change. He started getting constipated so we switched him back to regular Enfamil (which is much cheaper, by the way) and started him on Prevacid instead of Zantac. Hopefully, that will do the trick. We have realized that he is VERY gassy and we have to burp him after every ounce which makes bottle time a bit longer. He still only wakes up once a night. Last night he went down at 9:15 and didn't wake up to be fed until 3:30 am. He did, however, stay up until 5 am but then slept until 7 am. He weighed 11 lbs 2 oz at 5 weeks~BIG boy!! I thought he was going to be a quarterback but it looks like we may have a Linebacker!!!

"Peppi" time

My children (LG right now) call my mom "Peppi." It's a long story of how that name came about so I'll spare you but I love that name for her~it's unique and so is she! :) This was she and Carson this morning laying on LG's bed while LG read us all a story. Grandmas are the best, especially our Peppi!!!!

One month old!

Carson is one month old today! I can't believe it! It feels like it's gone by fast but it also feels like we've had him forever! The Zantac seems to be helping so far. He took good naps today and went down relatively easy~easy as you can expect for a one month old. :) He cried it out a couple of times but typically that only lasts at the most 15 minutes. The last two nights he has gone down around 9 pm and has woken up at 1 am for a middle of the night feeding and then again at 6 am. Andy has gotten up at 1 am so I have gotten to sleep through the night, although I do hear him when he gets back in the bed and it takes me a little while to go back to sleep, it's better than having to get up and do the feeding.

I am getting bored at home and can't get Carson out for fear of RSV. I get stir crazy and am trying to keep myself busy so I don't go crazy...er. ;) But I keep reminding myself that Christmas is coming and I'll be back at work before I know it so I need to TRY to enjoy this time off. My mom will be home with me starting Tuesday so that should be fun. I need to stay focused on the positives of the newborn phase~he'll be LG's age before I know it.

4 weeks and a few hiccups...

Well, apparently if there are issues with a newborn they don't really show their heads until you are good and comfortable with how things are going. Not that I am complaining about how easy the past few weeks have been and they are not really all that bad now but Carson has been diagnosed with acid reflux. LG had it and luckily this time we knew what signs to look for...around 4~6 weeks things like acid reflux and cradle cap and gas issues find their way into your baby's life. :( Poor Carson was rocking along, sleeping well, eating well, and generally having a pretty easy life but about a week ago he started grunting and crying out while he was eating and even though I knew what was probably happening (acid reflux), I wanted to believe that he was just gassy. It got progressively worse over the last week and yesterday, he just seemed to be in pain while eating and right after for most of the day. I took him in to see our friend and pediatrician, Dr. Rebekah, and she agreed that it sounded like he had reflux. He is now on Zantac twice a day as was LG. I hope this helps him like it helped her.

He weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs!!! PIG! He eats 5.5 oz every 4 hours but we may be scaling that back a bit considering his stomach is the size of his fist and 5.5 oz is quite a bit to fit in there. I may go back to 4.5 oz every 3.5 hours as that seemed to be working well. Note to self~never mess with a good thing.

LG's 1st Christmas Program

This was LG right before her Christmas program at her daycare last Thursday. There were 5 classes of 3 year olds and each class got up and sang 3 songs. LG and her classmates sang~Happy Birthday to Jesus, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and Isaiah 9:6. At the end they said, "Go Jesus, It's Your Birthday, Go Jesus!" and did their hands up like they were "raising the roof!" Hilarious!!!! They also asked all the kids a question about Santa, i.e. What is Santa's favorite food, favorite color, etc. They asked LG and 2 of her friends how Santa gets into their houses. One kid said, "through the tree," but LG being the rational one that she is said..." he can come through my front door." Duh! How else would he get into our house, right? Every other kid said something off the wall but my kid says something that totally makes sense...

In the Big Boy Bathtub!

Carson's belly button stump FINALLY fell off after 3 weeks! It usually takes about 1-2 weeks for it to fall off but apparently my children like to hold on to theirs as long as they can! LG's stayed on for a month. We took her to the dr to make sure everything was OK~he said sometimes it just takes a long time...obviously :)

So, Carson got a "Big Boy Bath" instead of the sponge bath he has been getting. He loved it. He just sat there all warm in his bath water. He did however cry "like a baby" :) when we got him out because he was cold. I wrapped him up in his hooded towel and he quieted down. I then lathered him up in Johnson's baby lotion~I love that smell! LG had eczema so we had to use non-smelling Eucerin lotion and I was so disappointed but so far Carson has been eczema free and smelling like a baby should. :)

3 weeks and still rocking along...

Carson continues to do well. He is getting chunky and I love it! I kiss his little cheeks all the time! He hit a growth spurt on Sunday and was fussy/hungry all day! We upped his formula and he now eats 4.5 oz every 3.5 hours. He stays up for about an hour after his daytime bottles and then I put him in his bed for his naps. I started swaddling him with a swaddling sack that they gave us in the hospital and that seems to have helped him sleep better. We never used anything like that with LG but Carson is SUCH a different baby. He snuggles right in and goes to sleep, no crying, with or without a pacifier. Blessing!! Last night he ate at 8:15 pm, 12 am, 4:15 am and slept until 8:30 am. He goes right back to sleep after his night bottles.

He smiled at me today and has seemed more alert today than previous days. The good days are coming~days filled with sweet sounds, smiles, and sleep filled nights.

This big sister loves her baby brother too!

Andy found our dog, Bella, and Carson sleeping soundly together! How sweet! Bella is just as jealous of our time with Carson as LG is. Whenever we are feeding or holding Carson, she will come and drop a toy on our lap and bark at us to play with her and give her some attention.
